Halifax is one of Canada’s oldest cities, and with that comes ageing water and sewer infrastructure that needs renewal.
Between 2019 and 2049, Halifax Water plans to invest about $4 billion to upgrade infrastructure to ensure the continued delivery of high-quality water, wastewater and stormwater services to benefit our customers and the environment. Below are some of the projects currently underway at Halifax Water.
Newton Avenue Water Main Replacement
As part of our ongoing commitment to communicating with customers and the local community, Halifax Water would like to inform you that we are upgrading the water main on Newton Avenue, Halifax, between Chebucto Road and Quinpool Road.
Langevin Drive Recap & Water Main Renewal
As part of our ongoing commitment to communicating with customers and the local community, Halifax Water would like to inform you that we are replacing a section of the water main that runs along Langevin Drive and Skyridge Avenue. This work is part of the utility's 30-year, $4 billion investment commitment to improving aging water, wastewater and stormwater systems.
Raymond and Walker Street Infrastructure Upgrades
As part of our ongoing commitment to communicating with customers and the local community, Halifax Water would like to inform you that we, in conjunction with HRM, will be initiating the Raymond and Walker St. infrastructure project. This work is part of the utility's 30-year, $4 billion investment commitment to improving aging water, wastewater and stormwater systems.
Charlotte Dr. & Jayden Dr. Infrastructure Replacement
As part of our ongoing commitment to communicating with customers and the local community, Halifax Water would like to inform you that we are completing upgrades to the water distribution system on Charlotte Drive and Jayden Drive in Dartmouth.
Cogswell District Energy System
The Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) is redeveloping the existing Cogswell Interchange area located in downtown Halifax. As part of this redevelopment plan, HRM requested Halifax Water explore the feasibility of an Ambient Temperature District Energy System (ATDES) in the Cogswell area.
Kingfisher Way – Wastewater Infrastructure Upgrades
As part of our ongoing commitment to communicating with customers and the local community, Halifax Water would like to inform you that we are completing wastewater infrastructure upgrades near Kingfisher Way, Lower Sackville. This work is part of the utility's 30-year, $4 billion investment commitment to improving aging water, wastewater and stormwater systems.
Vienna Street Water Main Replacement
Halifax Water is investing in improvements to the water distribution system on Vienna Street, Halifax by replacing the aging water main and some public portions of water service laterals (the section of the water pipe that connects your building to the water main in the street.)
Beaver Bank Reservoir Rehabilitation
As part of our ongoing commitment to communicating with customers and the local community, Halifax Water would like to inform you that we are completing repairs on the interior and exterior of the Beaver Bank Reservoir located at 20 Monarch in Beaver Bank, NS.
Walter Havill Drive Water Main Extension
As part of our ongoing commitment to communicating with customers and the local community, Halifax Water would like to inform you that we are completing a water main extension on Walter Havill Drive, between Dunbrack Street and Stone Gate Drive.
Quinpool Road Watermain Replacement
As part of our ongoing commitment of communicating with customers and the local community, Halifax Water would like to inform you that we will be completing a watermain replacement on Quinpool Road.
Coburg Road Water Main Replacement
As part of our ongoing commitment to communicating with customers and the local community, Halifax Water would like to inform you that we are upgrading the water main on Coburg Road, Halifax, from CN Rail to the end of Coburg Road.
Dingle Forcemain Replacement
As part of our ongoing commitment of communicating with customers and the local community, Halifax Water would like to inform you that we will be completing a wastewater forcemain replacement on Parkhill Road. This work is part of the utility's 30-year, $4 billion investment commitment to improving aging water, wastewater and stormwater systems.
Akerley Blvd. Sewer Forcemain Replacement

Silver Sands Water Main Extension

Middle Musquodoboit - Watermain Replacement
As part of our ongoing commitment to communicating with customers and the local community, Halifax Water would like to inform you that we are completing a water main replacement on Higginsville Road, Middle Musquodboit. This work is part of the utility's 30-year, $4 billion investment commitment to improving aging water, wastewater and stormwater systems.
Sawmill Creek Storm Sewer Replacement
