Almon Street Water Main Replacement

This work will not impact Halifax Water services in the area.

As part of our ongoing commitment to communicating with customers and the local community, Halifax Water would like to inform you that we are replacing the existing watermain on Almon Street between Windsor Street and Dublin Street. This work is part of the utility's 30-year, $4 billion investment commitment to improving aging water, wastewater and stormwater systems.

Harbour Construction will be completing this project on behalf of Halifax Water. The safety of staff, contractors and the public is our top priority during this work.

To ensure the safety of our communities and our staff, please maintain a safe distance when Halifax Water staff or contractors are working in your area.

What to Expect

Preparation work for this project will begin on July 11th, 2025, with the project expected to be completed in September 2025 (dates subject to change). Typical hours of work will be 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Monday to Friday.

This work will involve excavation in the street to install new watermain and excavation in the right of way to reconnect the public sections of service laterals. Following pipe installation, the work areas will be restored – including repaving the impacted sections of the street and any impacted property.

Some customers near this work will be connected to a temporary water supply system to maintain water service during this work. A separate communication will be shared with those customers. During this work, customers in the project area may experience temporary water service disruptions. The contractor will provide advance notice to the impacted customers for any planned water service interruptions. Wastewater and stormwater services will continue throughout this work.

During this project, there will be local traffic only on Almon Street between Dublin Street and Windsor Street. Experienced traffic control personnel will be on-site to manage traffic flows. Pedestrian traffic will be diverted to the opposite side of the street.
Traffic will be detoured through North Street. See map for further details. Traffic control personnel will be on-site during this construction to manage traffic flows.

Please note that on Friday, July 11, there will be local traffic only on Windsor Terrace and Deacon Street as crews prepare to start the project on Monday.
