Customers who consume water in their production processes or business operations may be eligible for annual wastewater rebates. The customer must purchase more than 1,000 m3 of water annually from Halifax Water and demonstrate, to the satisfaction of Halifax Water, that the volume of wastewater discharged into the wastewater system is less than the volume of water received. The difference in these two volumes becomes the basis for the wastewater rebate value.
Initially, an assessment of the customer’s private water and wastewater systems is needed to determine eligibility and establish how the customer will submit each annual rebate. Typically, a site visit is required during this pre-approval process, and a review of system processes is performed. The customer may need to modify or install additional equipment to collect the necessary information.
(Note that rebates do not apply where the volume is related to leakage or wastage from a metered water supply nor to the Wastewater Discharge Base Charge.)
Once this process is approved, the customer collects 12 consecutive months of data and submits it to Halifax Water for review and payment.
Every year the customer will need to submit for rebates once 12 months of data have been collected. An application for a wastewater rebate must be submitted to Halifax Water within six months after the end of the 12-month data period. This application is made by filling out the online form below and emailing the additional supporting data to customercare@halifaxwater.ca in accordance with the customer’s previously approved process for reporting.
Halifax Water will review each application for approval and payment.
