As part of our ongoing commitment to communicating with customers and the local community, Halifax Water would like to inform you that we are extending the watermain along Cow Bay Road.
This project will improve water distribution system interconnectivity and create an additional water supply feed for the Cow Bay area. This work is part of the utility's 30-year, $4 billion investment commitment to improving aging water, wastewater and stormwater systems.
This project will include the installation of approximately 1500 metres of new 300 mm and 200 mm pipe from the end of the existing limits of the water main on Cow Bay Road, near Samuel Daniel Drive, to the location of the existing Silver Sands Water Supply Plant (WSP) building near Spruce Drive. The existing WSP facility and supply wells will be decommissioned once the new supply is in service.
Dexter Construction will be completing this project on behalf of Halifax Water. The safety of staff, contractors and the public is our top priority during this work.

Typical hours of work will be 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Monday to Friday. There will be stop-and-go traffic in the work zone during these hours.
The project will start on August 19, 2024 with initial preparation work. Excavation is set to begin on August 26, 2024 and is expected to be completed by July 2025.
This work will involve excavation in the street to install the new water main extension and excavation in the right of way to reconnect the public sections of service laterals, installation the public sections of service
laterals. Following pipe installation, the work areas will be restored – including repaving the impacted sections of the street and any impacted property. See the map for the entire project area.
Traffic control personnel will be on-site during this construction to manage traffic flows.
