Labour Day Long Weekend Service Level Adjustments
Halifax Water offices will be closed to the public on Monday, September 7, 2026, for Labour Day.
Regular hours of operation will resume on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
We want to assure our customers that we remain committed to serving them, and we will be operating with a smaller group of core critical staff.
Halifax Water will continue to respond to and address any urgent water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure matters. Our Customer Care Centre Emergency Line remains open 24/7 at 902-420-9287.
To ensure the safety of our communities and our staff, please maintain a safe distance when Halifax Water staff or contractors are working in your area.
Heavy Rainfall Forecasted – Clearing Storm Drains, Catch Basins, and Driveway Culverts
Halifax Water is advising residents that the prolonged heavy rainfall that is expected this evening to Sunday could create surface-level run-off. This increases the risk of localized flooding, especially if storm drains and catch basins are blocked with debris, such as fallen leaves.
To help avoid this, Halifax Water is encouraging residents to check their storm drains/catch basins to ensure they are clear. If you see they are blocked, we ask that customers clear them if they are able, and it is safe to do so.
Customers with driveway culverts should ensure that nothing is blocking the flow of water.
Traffic Advisory – Dartmouth Road
From 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Tuesday, September 1 to Thursday, September 3, Halifax Water crews will be performing stormwater system maintenance on Dartmouth Road, Bedford. This work will not impact Halifax Water services in the area.
There will be lane reductions on Dartmouth Road between the Bedford Highway and Ridgevale Drive. Two-way traffic will be maintained. Experienced traffic control personnel will be on-site to manage traffic flows. Sidewalks will remain open.
Motorists should expect delays and use alternate routes. Motorists are also reminded that speed fines double in work zones.
