Halifax Water is upgrading infrastructure on Federal Avenue, Romans Avenue and McAlpine Avenue. Halifax Water’s work will include the installation of new water main and storm sewer. In advance of this work, Dexter Construction has begun installation of temporary water service, and bore hole work in the street to obtain rock and soil samples.

This work will take place throughout the area of Federal Avenue, Romans Avenue and McAlpine Avenue the weeks of April 20th and April 27th, Monday - Friday from 7:00 AM – approximately 7:00 PM. There will be rolling stop and go traffic as crews move through the work area. See attached work area map.

Experienced traffic control personnel will be on-site to ensure smooth traffic flow. On-site personnel will also maintain communication with local residents and businesses to help minimize disruption. Motorists are asked to use alternate routes and expect delays. Motorists are also reminded that speed fines double in work zones.

From time to time, you will see workers within 2 metres of each other while they work to maintain the critical water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure serving your home. As an essential service, contractors are exempt from the current 2-metre social/physical distancing rules.  However, when possible, crews will strive to maintain physical distancing measures. We ask that residents please ensure they give construction crews at least 2 metres of distancing as well.

We apologize for any inconvenience this necessary infrastructure improvement work may cause.
