Mandatory Water Conservation Measures Remain in Effect

All residents and businesses supplied by the Lake Major Water Supply Plant must follow mandatory Stage 1 water conservation measures until further notice
Published:

Since the mandatory Stage 1 water restrictions were implemented for the Lake Major supply area on September 10, Halifax Water has seen a 9% decline in overall consumption.

Halifax Water is encouraged by the public’s response and respectfully asks everyone to do their part to conserve water where they can. As these dry conditions persist and with little rain in the forecast, all residents and businesses supplied by the Lake Major Water Supply Plant must follow mandatory Stage 1 water conservation measures until further notice.

This impacts water service for the communities of Dartmouth, Burnside, Cole Harbour, Westphal, North Preston and Eastern Passage (see attached map for affected service areas).

Customers may use this interactive map to determine if they are serviced by the Lake Major water supply.

As a reminder the following activities are prohibited under mandatory Stage 1 conservation:

  • Watering lawns, ornamental gardens/trees
  • Washing vehicles.
  • Filling hot tubs.
  • Watering golf courses.
  • Bulk Fill Stations serviced by Lake Major will be closed

Residential and commercial customers are reminded to adhere to these measures. Failure to do so may result in a warning, a non-compliance fine, or suspension of service.

These mandatory measures have been implemented to help reduce demand on Lake Major and delay the need for a temporary alternative pumping solution.

Halifax Water customers serviced by Pockwock Lake remain under voluntary conservation measures.
