Wastewater System Mechanical Upgrades

Halifax Water will be performing mechanical upgrades at the Pier A Pumping Station
Published:

Halifax Water will be performing mechanical upgrades at the Pier A Pumping Station, located at 986 Barrington Street, Halifax. This work is scheduled to occur between October 13, 2026, and March 16, 2027, for a duration of 16 weeks. The map illustrates the properties located in the Pier A service area.

During these upgrades, screened wastewater will be at times temporarily discharged to the Halifax Harbour and ultimately the Atlantic Ocean. The temporary release is necessary to allow the upgrades to be completed safely and efficiently and will avoid the possibility of a future emergency process shutdown.

In conjunction with the main upgrade project at Pier A Pumping Station, short-term maintenance activities are also planned at the Halifax Wastewater Treatment Facility in October 2026. The date for this work has not yet been finalized and will be communicated once confirmed.
