From 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Saturday, September 18 (weather dependent), the following traffic changes will be in place for wastewater system maintenance:
- Gottingen Street will be closed between Russell Street and Bilby Street.
- Macara Street will be closed at its intersection with Gottingen Street.
Sidewalks will remain open.
Insituform, on behalf of Halifax Water, will be undertaking wastewater system maintenance through cure-in-place-pipe (CIPP) trenchless lining technology in this area.
CIPP lining involves reinforcing the inside of ageing underground pipes with a fabric liner that is saturated with a resin and then cured using UV light or steam.
This process is significantly less intrusive to traffic than traditional open-trench excavations for pipe replacement work that would otherwise need to be done.
Motorists should expect delays and use alternate routes. Motorists are also reminded that speed fines double in work zones.
