Traffic Advisory – Cornwallis Street, Halifax

Two sections of Cornwallis Street will be closed during this work
Published:

From 7:00 AM on Friday, August 13 (weather dependent) until 7:00 AM on Saturday, August 14, Cornwallis Street will be closed between Gottingen Street and Brunswick Street for wastewater system maintenance. Detours will be in place. Sidewalks and crosswalks will remain open.

Following that, crews will begin work from 7:00 AM on Saturday, August 14 (weather dependent) until 7:00 AM on Sunday, August 15. Cornwallis Street will be closed between Gottingen Street and Barrington Street for wastewater system maintenance. Detours will be in place. Sidewalks and crosswalks will remain open.

Insituform, on behalf of Halifax Water, will be undertaking wastewater system maintenance through cure-in-place-pipe (CIPP) trenchless lining technology in this area.

CIPP lining involves reinforcing the inside of ageing underground pipes with a fabric liner that is saturated with a resin and then cured using UV light or steam. This process is significantly less intrusive to traffic than traditional open-trench excavations for pipe replacement work that would otherwise need to be done.

Motorists should expect delays and use alternate routes. Motorists are also reminded that speed fines double in work zones.

We apologize for any inconvenience this necessary infrastructure improvement work may cause.

For the safety of work crews and residents, please observe social/physical distancing requirements (2 metres of separation).
