Published: 3:04 PM | February 14, 2025

Beginning on Tuesday, February 18, until approximately June 2025, Dexter Construction, on behalf of the Halifax Regional Municipality and Halifax Water, will be completing recapitalization and elevation changes on Canal Street.

The following traffic control plans will be in place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until June 2025:

  • Canal Street, between Portland Street and 11 Canal Street, will be closed.
  • 35 Canal Street (Dartmouth Curling Club) and 176 Portland Street will have access to their properties via Mill Lane.
  • All residents past 11 Canal Street will have to access their properties from Skokomul Street via a temporary access road.
  • No street parking – there will be no street parking within the work limits.

This work will not impact Halifax Water services in the area.

Motorists should expect delays and use alternate routes. Motorists are also reminded that speed fines double in work zones.
