From 7:00 AM on Saturday, December 6 to 7:00 AM on Sunday, December 7, the following traffic impacts will be in place for wastewater system maintenance:
- There will be a road closure on Herring Cove Road between Osborne Street and Purcells Cove Road.
- Detours in place.
- See map for further details.
- Lawnwood Avenue and Melwood Avenue are open to local traffic only.
- The businesses on Herring Cove Road located within the work area will have access via Osborne Street end only (i.e., no access from Purcells Cove Road).
- Halifax Transit bus stops will be impacted by this work. Halifax Transit detour information will be posted in the coming days. Please visit the Halifax Transit Service Disruption website here.
This work will not impact Halifax Water services in the area.
Clean Water Works, on behalf of Halifax Water, will be undertaking wastewater system maintenance through cure-in-place-pipe (CIPP) trenchless lining technology.
CIPP lining involves reinforcing the inside of ageing underground pipes with a fabric liner that is saturated with resin and then cured using UV light or steam. This process is significantly less intrusive to traffic than traditional open-trench excavations for pipe replacement work that would otherwise need to be done.
Motorists should expect delays and use alternate routes. Motorists are also reminded that speed fines double in work zones.
We apologize for any inconvenience this necessary infrastructure improvement work may cause.
To ensure the safety of our communities and our staff, please maintain a safe distance when Halifax Water staff or contractors are working in your area.
