Halifax Water is investing in improvements to the water distribution system on Vienna Street, Halifax by replacing the aging water main and some public portions of water service laterals (the section of the water pipe that connects your building to the water main in the street.)
By replacing aging sections of the water distribution system, the water supply that serves your community will be more resilient and reliable for decades to come.
Dexter Construction will be completing this project on behalf of Halifax Water and HRM. The safety of staff, contractors, and the public is our top priority during this work.
To ensure the safety of our communities and our staff, please maintain a safe distance when Halifax Water staff or contractors are working in your area.
Construction is scheduled to start in April and is expected to be completed in August.
Typical hours of work will be 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
This work will involve excavation in the street to install the new water main. Following pipe installation, the work areas will be restored – including repaving the impacted sections of the street (curb to curb) and any impacted property. See the map below for the entire project area. Traffic control personnel will be on-site during this construction to manage traffic flows.
Some customers near this work will be connected to a temporary water supply system to maintain water service during this work. A separate communication will be shared with those customers. During this work, customers in the project area may experience temporary water service disruptions. The contractor will provide advance notice to the impacted customers for any planned water service interruptions. Wastewater and stormwater services will continue throughout this work.
