Akerley Blvd. Sewer Forcemain Replacement

During working hours there will be a lane drop on Akerley Boulevard

As part of our ongoing commitment to communicating with customers and the local community, Halifax Water would like to inform you that we are completing a sewer forcemain replacement on Akerley Boulevard, Dartmouth. This work is part of the utility's 30-year, $4 billion investment commitment to improving aging water, wastewater and stormwater systems.

Fer-Pal Infrastructure will be completing this project on behalf of Halifax Water. The safety of staff, contractors and the public is our top priority during this work.

To ensure the safety of our communities and our staff, please maintain a safe distance when Halifax Water staff or contractors are working in your area.

What to Expect

Typical hours of work will be 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, Monday to Friday, with daytime weekend work. This project will begin on Friday, August 16 and will be completed mid-September 2024. During working hours there will be a lane drop on Akerley Boulevard from Windmill Road to 14 Akerley Bouldevard in both directions with two-way traffic maintained. Traffic control personnel will be on-site during this construction to manage traffic flows.

This work will be completed through cure-in-place-pipe (CIPP) trenchless lining technology in this area. CIPP lining involves reinforcing the inside of ageing underground pipes with a fabric liner that is saturated with a resin and then cured using steam. This process is significantly less intrusive to traffic than traditional open-trench excavations for pipe replacement work that would otherwise need to be done.
