August 22, 2023 UPDATE:

Following a successful wastewater system repair, Halifax Water is advising the public that the recommendation that people and pets avoid contact with water in the Northwest Arm is no longer in effect.

We have continued to provide updates to the applicable federal, provincial, and municipal entities regarding this incident.

Thank you to our customers who worked with us to help protect the environment by temporarily reducing their water use and wastewater flows.
 


Halifax Water would like to inform residents that the wastewater system overflow near the Northwest Arm area has been diverted and is being treated. Wastewater is no longer overflowing into the Northwest Arm. 

It is strongly advised that people and pets should not go swimming or participate in recreational activities that require water contact in the Northwest Arm until further notice.  

We have made the applicable federal, provincial, and municipal entities aware of this incident.

Halifax Water would like to inform residents of a wastewater system backup, resulting in untreated, unscreened wastewater entering the Northwest Arm.

Halifax Water crews are working as safely and quickly as possible to return the system to normal operations. 

It is strongly advised that people and pets should not go swimming or participate in recreational activities that require water contact in the Northwest Arm until further notice. 

We have made the applicable federal, provincial, and municipal entities aware of this incident.

To reduce the environmental impact during this work, Halifax Water is asking customers in the areas shown on the attached map to reduce the amount of water they are flushing and pouring into their drains.
