Halifax Water is inviting applications for one (1) Watershed Summer Student. This employment opportunity is available during the summer months from May to August 2025. The successful candidate can expect to be involved in field projects throughout Halifax Water’s Watershed properties. The successful candidate must have a keen interest in, and knowledge of, operational forestry, specifically:
- Timber Cruising
- GIS/ GPS experience
- Block layout
- Silviculture Survey
- Logging and Road construction supervision
- Other duties related to assisting the Watershed Manager
Reports to: Watershed Manager
Minimum Qualifications
This opportunity is open to students currently enrolled in a post-secondary degree or diploma in Forestry, a Forest Technician program or a related natural resources program and must be returning back to school in the fall 2025. The successful candidate must have:
- A valid Driver’s License, Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract and access to a reliable vehicle
- A satisfactory background check and satisfactory pre-employment testing.
- Experience and proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, GPS and GIS
- Good field navigation skills
It would be an asset for the successful candidate to have:
- Recent safety training certificates in First Aid, WHMIS, ATV operation safety and chainsaw safety.
Salary: As per the CUPE Local 1431 Collective Agreement, current rate is $23.40/hr.
