Primary Function

Halifax Water is inviting applications for one (1) Watershed Summer Student.  This employment opportunity is available during the summer months from May to August 2025. Duties & Responsibilities

The successful candidate can expect to be involved in field projects throughout Halifax Water’s Watershed properties.  The successful candidate must have a keen interest in, and knowledge of, operational forestry, specifically:

  • Timber Cruising
  • GIS/ GPS experience
  • Block layout        
  • Silviculture Survey
  • Logging and Road construction supervision
  • Other duties related to assisting the Watershed Manager

 

Reporting Relationships

Reports to:  Watershed Manager

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

This opportunity is open to students currently enrolled in a post-secondary degree or diploma in Forestry, a Forest Technician program or a related natural resources program and must be returning back to school in the fall 2025.  The successful candidate must have:

  • A valid Driver’s License, Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract and access to a reliable vehicle
  • A satisfactory background check and satisfactory pre-employment testing.
  • Experience and proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, GPS and GIS
  • Good field navigation skills

 

Other Requirements

It would be an asset for the successful candidate to have:

  • Recent safety training certificates in First Aid, WHMIS, ATV operation safety and chainsaw safety.

Salary:   As per the CUPE Local 1431 Collective Agreement, current rate is $23.40/hr.
