Responsible for the installation, configuration, support and maintenance of Halifax Water’s Applications.
Strategy & Planning
- Work with individual Business Units to ensure their requirements are adequately captured
- Document application configuration and architecture
- Maintain current industry knowledge, best practices and procedures
- Planning and execution of tasks related to execution of new application initiatives
- Consult with the Enterprise Architect to keep the Enterprise Architecture up to date
Acquisition & Deployment
- Plan, test and control the release of new features
Operational Management
- Perform break/fix on a priority basis utilizing the Halifax Water ticketing system
- Install, configure, upgrade, maintain and document the application environment
- Ensure best practices are being maintained
- Ensure security best practices and Halifax Water policies are being followed to protect corporate data
- Create and maintain workflows as required
- Create/Update sites, lists, libraries, templates, themes, site definitions, content types, GIS Services, etc.
- Ensure all environments are synced accordingly (DEV, QA, PROD)
- Perform upgrades, testing and patch management
- Monitor system usage including disk space and performance
- Keep track of all change requests for the application(s)
- Manage all tickets related to the application
- Liaise with vendor as required
- Create custom database reports
Training
- Must keep current with the required training for the appropriate application that are supported
- Must be able to train staff in the use of the application
- Performs such other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- Post Secondary Degree or Diploma preferably in one of the following: Computer Science, Information Technology, Geomatics, Geography, or equivalent training and experience
Experience:
- 5 years experience as an Application Administrator
- Hands on experience with the following:
- Microsoft Window Operating System environments
- Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
- Familiarity with the fundamental principles of ITIL
- Experience with the administration of business applications
- Experience with GIS solutions for business applications
- Experience with SQL
- ITIL Foundations or willing to obtain within 6 months of being hired.
- Plus, one of the following certificates is preferred:
- Microsoft Certified Certification (e.g. MCSE, MCSA)
- GIS Professional Certification (e.g. GISP)
- Equivalent certification or experience may be considered
- Access to reliable transportation on an ongoing basis.
- Must be willing to undertake and maintain the following safety training:
- First Aid
- Globally Harmonized System (GHS) (Formerly WHMIS)
- Additional safety training as identified based on legislative and operational requirements
- Effective interpersonal skills and relationship-building skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
- Understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
- Self-motivated and directed.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Strong customer-service orientation.
- Knowledge of GIS-centric solutions for water distribution and wastewater collection systems workflows.
