Primary Function

The Cyber Security Awareness Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, managing, and delivering Cyber Security awareness training to Halifax Water employees and users on both Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) protection practices. 

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Promoting a culture of security awareness and compliance, design and develop comprehensive Cyber Security awareness programs tailored to the needs of the organization.
  • Implement training sessions, workshops, and seminars to educate employees on best practices for Cyber Security.
  • Create engaging and informative content, including newsletters, articles, videos, and online courses.
  • Track and report on training and awareness progress, and calculate metrics to measure the effectiveness of security, privacy, and social engineering training programs.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on program outcomes and areas for improvement to senior management.
  • Work closely with Information and Technology staff, and other departments to ensure a seamless implementation of awareness initiatives.
  • Provide expertise in awareness training techniques to the Cyber Security group and collaborate to resolve awareness training issues.
  • Participate in Cyber Security strategic planning and long-term development for the organization.
  • Perform other related duties as may be assigned.
     
Reporting Relationships

Reports to:    Manager, Cyber Security Governance, Risk, and Compliance    
Supervises:   None
 

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

Education:

  • Diploma in computer science, information technology, or a related topic. 
  • Education in in teaching, coaching, adult education, or instructional design is an asset.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience designing, developing, and teaching specific technical, application, and training courses to diverse audiences. A focus on cyber security awareness, compliance and training programs will be an asset.
    • Other equivalent combinations of formal education and related experience may be considered. 
       
Other Requirements

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:

  • One of the following or equivalent:
    • Certified Cyber Security Awareness Professional (CCAP)
    • Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT)
    • Certified Technology Trainer (CTT+)
    • CompTIA Security+ - Must obtain certification within 12 months of obtaining position. 
  • Valid NS Drivers’ License and access to reliable transportation on an ongoing basis.
  • Must be willing to undertake and maintain the following safety training:
    • First Aid
    • Globally Harmonized System (GHS) (Formerly WHMIS)
    • Additional safety training as identified based on legislative and operational requirements.
       
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of Train the Trainer education approaches.
  • Knowledge of technical writing approaches.
  • Strong knowledge of current Cyber Security threats, vulnerabilities, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong motivational, leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to develop engaging training materials and programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment to accomplish organizational goals.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive with a commitment to fostering a culture of security awareness.
  • Strong computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and Learning Management System tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio)
  • Ability to negotiate and collaborate with stakeholders, teams, vendors, and third-party service providers.
