(Sunday, September 8, 2019 – 8:00 PM) – With the exit of Hurricane Dorian, weather conditions have stabilized allowing Halifax Water to resume normal operations at most of its major facilities this evening. Halifax Water offices and facilities will be open for normal hours of operation tomorrow (Monday, September 9, 2019).

Halifax Water’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) will be closing at 9:00 PM today (Sunday, September 8, 2019), however, staff will remain on duty 24/7 as required until the transition to normal operations is complete.

Halifax Water continues to work with our partners to restore full service at any remaining Halifax Water facilities without electricity.

We thank our customers and stakeholders throughout Halifax Regional Municipality for your patience over this weekend, and of course, we’d like to thank our employees for their dedicated work to maintain essential water, wastewater, and stormwater services throughout our region.

(Sunday, September 8, 2019 – 5:00 AM) – With improved weather conditions, Halifax Water dispatched crews to priority locations within Halifax Regional Municipality at 12:00 AM this morning (Sunday, September 8, 2019).

Halifax Water is working closely with fuel suppliers to ensure priority water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure, such as water supply plants, wastewater treatment facilities, and pump stations remain on back-up power. 

Halifax Water’s water supply plants continue to produce high quality drinking water. Where water service is unavailable due to electrical outages, Halifax Water continues to work to restore service in conjunction with Nova Scotia Power.

Halifax Water’s wastewater treatment facilities continue to function as intended under high-flow conditions.

Halifax Water’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) is in operation on a 24 hour basis throughout the storm. Halifax Water staff are also working with the Municipal Emergency Management Office to coordinate efforts as required.

(Saturday, September 7, 2019 - 10:45 PM) - Hurricane Dorian is currently impacting the Halifax area. Halifax Water operates critical water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure.

As Hurricane Dorian begins to strengthen, Halifax Water will be pulling our crews off the roads until it is safe to return.

We will continue to log & triage calls. Once we are able to get out, crews will deal with individual situations on a priority basis.

Hurricane Dorian is currently predicted to impact Halifax and Nova Scotia Saturday into Sunday. Halifax Water operates critical water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure and is taking all possible precautions to prepare for Dorian.

Those measures include filling of fuel tanks, testing backup power supply generators, filling of water reservoirs, securing construction sites and working to clear drains and pipes in flood prone areas.

Halifax Water’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) will be in operation on a 24 hour basis throughout the storm. Halifax Water staff are also working with the Municipal Emergency Management Office to coordinate efforts as required.
