Update: 8:47 AM on Saturday, August 22, 2020
Water service is on schedule for restoration at 12 noon for customers in the Caledonia Road and Jaybe Drive water outage areas.
Some customers in the water outage areas will see initial low pressure as the water mains are refilled throughout the area. Customers in the water outage and reduced water pressure areas may experience temporarily discoloured water. If discolouration occurs, run the COLD water at one faucet for about 10 minutes. You should see the water clear. Do not use the hot water faucet since this will draw discoloured water into your hot water heater/tank, which could make the problem worse. If the water fails to clear after 10 minutes, wait for a few hours and again try running only the cold water. To learn more about discoloured water, visit www.halifaxwater.ca/discoloured-water.
Residents can check the online interactive map below to see if you’re in the water outage or low-pressure areas.
For the safety of work crews and residents, please maintain social/physical distancing requirements of at least 2 metres/6 feet.

It is recommended that any water required during this period be stored in advance by filling appropriate containers for drinking and cooking. As a precautionary measure, customers are advised to turn off their hot water tanks during this time to prevent damage to heating elements should the water be inadvertently drained from the tank. Businesses/buildings with sprinkler systems should notify their monitoring agent so they are aware of the pressure loss, which may trigger an alarm; and contact their insurance company to notify them of the sprinkler system loss during this period. To assist affected customers, a potable water truck will be at the Caledonia Junior High School parking lot, 38 Caledonia Road, throughout this work.
As part of the construction work, there will stop and go traffic on Caledonia Road between Sheiling Lane and Gourok Avenue. The sidewalk adjacent to the work zone will be closed. There will be a partial lane closure on Jaybe Drive with local traffic only access. See the attached maps.
Halifax Regional Fire is aware of this work and has a plan to provide water for firefighting should the need arise.
Experienced traffic control personnel will be on-site to ensure smooth traffic flow around the work zones. Motorists should expect delays and use alternate routes. Motorists are also reminded that speed fines double in work zones.
For the safety of work crews and residents, please maintain social/physical distancing requirements of at least 2 metres/6 feet.
