Halifax Water is planning to perform preventative maintenance work at the Halifax wastewater treatment facility located at 2180 Barrington Street, Halifax. This work is tentatively scheduled for a four-day period between January 6 and January 23, 2026. Dates are subject to change depending on the weather and regulatory approvals. Halifax Water will provide the exact dates this maintenance will take place in advance of the start date.
During this preventative maintenance work, the treatment plant will continue to fully treat normal daily flows in dry weather, but it may lead to a release of partially treated wastewater to the Harbour during periods of wet weather. This maintenance work is integral to the system’s operation and will avoid the need for an emergency process shutdown. Halifax Water will schedule the work during a period of drier weather to minimize potential environmental impacts.
To reduce pressure on the wastewater system and minimize environmental impact during this temporary maintenance period, we are asking customers to reduce wastewater flows in the areas shown (see map). Please minimize use of running water, flushing toilets, or doing laundry during this time.
