Major Halifax Water Projects

The major construction projects Halifax Water is currently undertaking

Halifax is one of Canada’s oldest cities, and with that comes ageing water and sewer infrastructure that needs renewal.

Between 2019 and 2049, Halifax Water plans to invest about $4 billion to upgrade infrastructure to ensure the continued delivery of high-quality water, wastewater and stormwater services to benefit our customers and the environment. Below are some of the projects currently underway at Halifax Water.

Windsor Street Water Main Upgrade

Halifax Water would like to inform you that we are upgrading the water main on Windsor Street, Halifax, between Young Street and Cork Street. This work is part of the utility's 30-year, $4 billion investment commitment to improving aging water, wastewater, and stormwater systems.

Pauline Crescent Infrastructure Upgrades

Atlantic Road Construction and Paving (ARCP), on behalf of Halifax Water and Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), will be undertaking work on Pauline Crescent, Dartmouth. The Halifax Water portion of this work will include the entire replacement of the water main, as well as the replacement of several sanitary service laterals in the project area.

Churchill Dr. Water Transmission Main Replacement

As part of our ongoing commitment to communicating with customers and the local community, Halifax Water would like to inform you that we are replacing aging water transmission mains along Churchill Drive, through Upper Flinn Park, and up to the intersection with Quinn Street.

Beaver Bank Road Water Main Replacement

As part of our ongoing commitment to communicating with customers and the local community, Halifax Water would like to inform you that we are replacing a section of the water main that runs along Beaver Bank Road. This work is part of the utility's 30-year, $4 billion investment commitment to improving aging water, wastewater and stormwater systems.

Lewis Street Water Main Replacement

This work is part of the utility's 30-year, $4 billion investment commitment to improving aging water, wastewater and stormwater systems.

Maynard Lake & Clement St. Infrastructure Upgrades

Halifax Water is currently in the planning phase of a future project that will separate stormwater discharge from the wastewater system in and around the Maynard Lake area and Clement Street. This work is part of the utility's 30-year, $4 billion investment commitment to improving aging water, wastewater and stormwater systems.

Gallery Crescent PRV Chamber Installation

As part of our ongoing commitment to communicating with customers and the local community, Halifax Water would like to inform you that we are installing a new pressure-reducing valve (PRV) chamber on Gallery Crescent, in order to improve the resiliency of the water distribution system in Middle and Lower Sackville.

Cogswell District Energy System

The Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) is redeveloping the existing Cogswell Interchange area located in downtown Halifax. As part of this redevelopment plan, HRM requested Halifax Water explore the feasibility of an Ambient Temperature District Energy System (ATDES) in the Cogswell area. The ATDES would be constructed in conjunction with the overall Cogswell redevelopment project.
