Primary Function

As a core member of an Infrastructure Team, the Engineering Technologist II (Project) performs technical duties relating to the design and construction management of water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure expansion renewal, rehabilitation and maintenance. 

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform research, data collection, analysis and document preparation for technical reports and studies relating to engineering projects/topics. 
  • Prepare cost estimates and preliminary design sketches required for the proposed capital projects. 
  • Prepare specifications and tender documents for capital projects. 
  • Collect information on existing field conditions required for the preparation of engineering drawings and/or to revise and update records. 
  • Perform quality control inspections relating to construction of utility infrastructure capital projects to ensure compliance with design and specification documents. 
  • Collect and process record information, utilizing total station survey equipment and other tools, for utility infrastructure capital projects. 
  • Perform construction management duties relating to utility infrastructure capital projects including, initial dispute resolution, document clarification/interpretation, and safety and environmental reviews. 
  • Check and verify monthly progress estimates from contractors for capital projects. 
  • Liaise with developers, consultants, contractors and other related agencies. 
  • Review drawings, inspection reports, certifications, easement documents, legal plans and descriptions, test results, cost estimates and security documents submitted in support of applications for subdivision endorsement. 
  • Assist in the review and approval process for building permits and subdivision developments relating to the connection to, or extension of, the utility infrastructure. 
  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

Education: 

  • Civil Engineering Technologist Diploma, or equivalent related engineering and surveying courses.

Experience: 

  • Experience in construction inspection and supervision of civil engineering projects.

 Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:

  • Registered member or eligible for membership in TechNova as Certified Engineering
  • Must possess a valid Nova Scotia Drivers License.
Other Requirements

This is a CUPE Local 1431 unionized position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Survey knowledge and capability utilizing survey equipment.
  • Computer knowledge and proficiency in software utilized in engineering applications.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
